Bagong Silang is a small sitio located at the lower tip and western side of Sucat adjacent to Barangay Cupang, City of Muntinlupa. The name “Bagong Silang” was given by the late Mayor Maximino A. Argana in 1985 due to the increasing number of newborn babies in the community. Bagong Silang became known as a humble community that serves depressed, deprived, and underserved families in the urban poor sector.
Bagong Silang Elementary School was founded in 1987 through the efforts of civic-spirited individuals headed by Mrs. Lulu Teodoro. The school started as an outreach school of Benedictine Abbey with only one makeshift classroom. Mrs. Edna Labutin became the first teacher assigned to the school.
Three years later, four additional makeshift classrooms were constructed through the initiative of Hon. Mayor Ignacio “Toting” Bunye, later known as the Bunye Building. In 1991, the GPTA officers headed by Mrs. Charlita Regpala and Mrs. Elizabeth Flores requested the establishment of a public school in the area, resulting in the creation of Sucat Elementary School Annex.
The first school head was Mrs. Ligaya G. Faustino, followed by Mrs. Rosita A. Espina. During School Year 1996–1997, the annex became an independent institution and was officially renamed Bagong Silang Elementary School with Mrs. Melita Nobayo serving as school head. In 1997, Mrs. Maria G. Tamaray assumed the position, followed by Mrs. Marilou T. Gorospe on August 14, 1998.
On June 5, 2000, Mrs. Carmelita M. Aquisap became the school head. At that time, the school only had seven classrooms serving around 700 pupils. Due to the rapid increase in enrollment and the support of Mayor Atty. Jaime R. Fresnedi, six makeshift classrooms were added to accommodate students through a two-shift class schedule.
In 2001, Hon. Mayor Jaime R. Fresnedi purchased a 949.2 square meter lot adjacent to the Bunye Building for the construction of a two-story building with six classrooms funded by the CASPAR Foundation (Campaign to Stop Prostitution of Asian Children and Protect their Rights), a Japanese Christian foundation dedicated to improving educational facilities.
From January 15, 2002 to June 19, 2005, Mrs. Clarita E. Alejandro served as school principal and initiated several projects focused on physical facilities, pupil development, staff enhancement, and community linkages to improve the quality of education.
On June 20, 2005, Mr. Antonio C. Gagala was assigned to supervise and manage the school. During his administration, another three-story building with six classrooms was constructed through the efforts of Senator Pia S. Cayetano, Councilor Rene Carl S. Cayetano, and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Several school leaders continued to contribute to the growth and success of the institution, including Dr. Rosendo E. Sangalang, Dr. Buena C. Dela Cruz, Dr. Ma. Theresa C. Dela Rosa, Maria Hazel V. Hernandez, Noemi B. Zarate, Eden G. Cado, Dr. Evangeline M. Aman, and Felipe W. Marapao Jr.
On November 4, 2025, Mr. Arsenio S. Medenilla, Master Teacher I and School Head Designate, was assigned to manage and supervise the school. Today, Bagong Silang Elementary School proudly serves approximately 1,340 pupils with the support of 42 nationally paid teachers and 11 non-teaching personnel working together to build a strong educational community capable of responding to the challenges of a fast-changing world.
Bagong Silang Elementary School supports the mission of the Department of Education in providing quality, accessible, culture-based, and complete basic education for every learner. The school aims to create a child-friendly, safe, and motivating learning environment where teachers, parents, and the community work together in developing responsible and lifelong learners.
Bagong Silang Elementary School envisions learners who love their country, uphold good values, and develop competencies that will help them realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society. The school aspires to nurture disciplined, responsible, and globally competitive Filipino learners.
